Sending Money and Supplies to Friend in Prison
My friend was incarcerated and needed money and supplies while he was serving his sentence. He was arrested because he was driving with an expired registration. It didn’t happen just once; he was driving with an expired registration and was stopped, and stopped again, and stopped again. He was finally arrested and put in jail. Over the course of about two months he was in and out of jail either because he didn’t take care of his registration or his license had expired. He was a smart guy, kind of a genius that doesn’t have the social skills. So knowing him I’m thinking that he wasn’t blatantly rude, but because of his lack of social skills he probably upset the officer in some way.
Sending Money: Western Union
I wanted to send him money so I went to Western Union. In order to send money they first had to verify me and then charged me 10% to send the money. I sent him about $150. My friend was eccentric, but he was a good guy so I didn’t mind spending the money; I didn’t expect it back from him.
Sending Food & Toiletries: Commissary
Then he asked if I could buy him some items through the commissary. He gave me the list and it was horrible food, nothing nutritious. He told me that some of the things on the list were so he could trade them with people for other stuff. So I ordered around $100 worth of stuff through the internet to the company he told me about. He received everything about two days later. I don’t know what he was eating day to day, or what he ate from what I sent him, however he said he was losing ½ lb a day because he didn’t like what was served.

Released from Jail
When he got released from jail he moved to another state. I’m sure there was more to his story, but I was in a different state and couldn’t visit him to get the story. He was a younger friend that I was considering doing business with, however because of all of his issues with being in and out of jail, I decided not to do business with him. I want you to know we are still friends though. I was glad that I could help him.
